The talks are being arranged at a time when US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad for Afghanistan is also in consultation with European, NATO and UN allies this week. According to the US State Department, Zalmay Khalilzad will also consult with representatives of Russia and China. The peace talks between the United States and the Taliban were suspended in September. The US president blamed the Taliban for the killings.
