Khartoum … News time

Earlier this month, the issue has once again raised the issue of how the ousted President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir, and other leaders of the Congress Party should be handed over to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague. Sudan’s Attorney General aj Alserali Al-Hibr Ali met with the delegation of Darfur Advocates Committee yesterday. Meanwhile, the possibility of Umar al-Bashir being handed over to the ICC was discussed.

According to Sudanese news agency “SUNA”, Darfur Advocates Committee deputy head Saleh Mahmood believes that many relevant topics were discussed in the discussion. These include the handing over of the former president to the ICC, the amendment of applicable laws, investigative committees, the performance of the General Prosecutor and Interim Judiciary on the crimes committed in Darfur. According to Saleh Mahmood, the parties agreed that this time was not appropriate for obtaining permits to be handed over to Omar al-Bashir. However, as far as the bill for amending the rules is concerned, the parties agreed on the need for repeal of laws that do not conform to the constitution and international standards. The Sudanese Attorney General promised to contact the Minister of Justice for quick and effective steps in this regard.

The interim government in Sudan has believed it will delegate the authority to hand over the leadership of the former government to the International Criminal Court to the new government. Government spokesman and Minister of Information and Culture Faisal Mohammad Saleh told Al Arabiya the interim cabinet will bring this decision to the Constitutional Court under discussion which will be issued on a petition filed by a non-governmental organization.

Since the fall of Omar al-Bashir’s government in April this year, the International Criminal Court’s female general prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has repeated the demand that the former president be handed over to the aforementioned court. However, Omar al-Bashir’s appearance on the charge of illegally seizing money is still limited to the local court.
