North Korea’s crop production is expected to fall to the lowest level in the past 5 years and face severe food shortages, the UN said in a report. The report states that due to the dry weather and poor irrigation system, it is facing a 40 percent drop in production in proportion to the North Korean population. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said in a recent report released Thursday. This year, North Korea’s major rice and maize crops could not be cultivated this year, leaving more than a million people in urgent need of help. According to the report, corn and rice crops are cultivated during the period from mid-April to mid-July. However, due to low rainfall and inadequate canal facilities, the cultivation of these crops has declined greatly.
