In the Chaudhry Sugar Mill case, the accountability court extended the judicial remand of Muslim League N vice-president Maryam Nawaz and his cousin Yousuf Abbas till October 25. According to details, Chaudhry Sugar Mill case was heard in Lahore’s accountability court, while Amir Muhammad Khan, a judge of the accountability court, heard the case. According to sources, the PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and his cousin Yousuf Abbas were presented to the accountability court on the completion of the judicial remand, Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar and party leaders Ahsan Iqbal, Pervez Rasheed, Maryam Aurangzeb, Saira Afzal Tarad and others were present on the occasion.

The resolution demanding the release of the PML-N central leader Maryam Nawaz on parole for meeting with his father, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, was submitted to the Punjab Assembly. The text of the resolution submitted by Member Assembly Saadiya Timur states that Nawaz Sharif has done a great service to the country; emergency measures should be taken to restore Nawaz Sharif’s health. It is demanded that Maryam Nawaz be released on parole for meeting with Nawaz Sharif. The resolution further said that if anything happened to Nawaz Sharif, the responsibility would be on the government.

On the other hand, the District Court of Lahore approved the 14-day judicial remand of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain (R) Safdar. It may be recalled that Capt. R R Safdar, leader of the PML-N, was arrested yesterday while coming to Lahore from Islamabad. Today, Captain (R) Safdar was produced before the District Court in strict security. According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against him in Islamabad, Captain retired Safdar has been arrested for inciting the people against the government. During the hearing, Captain (R) Safdar’s lawyer, Farhad Ali, told the court that no one could be arrested on the motive of the government. He said that the government did not issue any notification of the arrest of Captain retired Safdar, the Deputy Commissioner may order a detention in writing, but no written order has been issued here. “My client has nothing to do with a banned organization. Police have arrested Capt. Retired Safdar on political grounds only,” he said. The lawyer said that if the arrest on the video issue is still not authorized by the police, it is against the law to present Capt. Retired Safdar at 6 pm after the court time has expired. He said that false and false accusations were being made against Captain (R) Safdar. Farhad Ali Shah said that people are dying due to poverty, hunger and lack of medicines inside the country. A long march is being carried out that has led to the arrest. He appealed to the court that the case against Captain retired Safdar should be dismissed immediately.

In court, Captain Safdar said that his wife and husband Nawaz Sharif are attending court proceedings, in the accountability court, the police tortured the woman, whom I stopped when I was booked. He said that I was granted bail in this case but was arrested in another case yesterday. “I was kept in detention for 24 hours and an FIR was registered in the morning, some forces are behind me, I was disqualified and sentenced,” he said. The government lawyer in the court arguing that Capt. Retired Safdar has been arrested by the police today, there are serious charges against him and he is guilty too. The government lawyer requested the court to have audio and video test of Captain Retired Safdar for 14 days physical remand. However, the court rejected the request for physical remand of the police and sent Captain retired Safdar to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. Later, Capt. Retired Safdar also filed his bail application in the district court, on which the court issued notices to the government October 24.
