Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has left for a tour of 3 Baltic States and 3 East European nations. He will be the first Japanese prime minister to visit these countries. Abe left Tokyo’s Haneda airport on Friday morning for Russia’s neighbor, Estonia, the first leg of his 6-day trip. He will also go to Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania. Abe told reporters that the trip will further expand Japan’s diplomacy. He said that in his talks with his counterparts, he hopes to seek coordination on North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and other urgent issues that are facing the international community. Abe also expressed hope to promote economic ties with these rapidly growing countries. He added that he is traveling with representatives from more than 30 Japanese companies.
