The Islamabad High Court has constituted a two-member bench to hear the petition against the former prime minister and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference. The bench comprises Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court. The PML-N leader will hear the petition filed against Nawaz Sharif on September 18. The newspaper reports that it will be the first hearing against Judge Arshad Malik’s conviction in the Al-Azizia reference since the video leaked controversy.

Remember that in a press conference, while showing the video, Maryam Nawaz said that the judge appearing in the video told Nasir Butt about the verdict: “Nawaz Sharif has been abused, after the verdict, my conscience continued to rebuke and after which nightmares come to frighten dreams, therefore, it should be conveyed to Nawaz Sharif that his case has been abused. Arshad Malik is the same judge who sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years imprisonment in Al-Azizia reference while in the flagship reference he was acquitted.

Judge Arshad Malik, on the other hand, claimed in an affidavit that the bribery offers and serious consequences from the representatives of the PML-N for forcing them to decide in favor of Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia and flagship references. Threatened, he was later forced to resign. In the affidavit, Judge Arshad Malik said that while arguments in the flagship reference and the trial of Al-Azizia reference were underway so once again Meher Jilani and Nasir Janjua contacted me and this time they also brought a financial offer from Nawaz Sharif.

Judge Arshad Malik said that during a meeting with Khurram Butt and Nasir Butt in February 2019, Nasir Butt asked that did Nasir Janjua show you a video in Multan to which I replied that I did not know what he was talking about. Nasir Butt said that you will be shown the video in a few days, after which Mian Tariq and his son met me. I have known since I was posted as Additional and Sessions Judge in Multan from 2000 to 2003. Tariq Mehmood involved in video scandal has been jailed on judicial remand but the other three accused Nasir Janjua, Meher Ghulam Jilani and Khurram were handed over to the FIA. Later on the completion of the remand, the accused were produced in court and the investigating officer took the stand that no evidence was found against the three accused, if the court wishes to release them, the court has decided to release them.
