The US Commission on International Religious Freedom has listed India as a country of concern for minorities and said that India has come down several notches in terms of religious freedom. The Modi government has launched a campaign against Muslims and other minorities. The US report criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to end the special status of Occupied Kashmir, the controversial Citizenship Bill and the Babri Masjid. The US Commission also recommended that the State Department ban Indian institutions and officials involved in violations. On the other hand, while acknowledging the positive steps taken by Pakistan, the report said that Kartarpur Corridor, First Sikh University, temple decoration, release of Asiya and other prisoners are positive steps of Pakistan. The report retains Pakistan in the list of CPC countries, while Nigeria, Russia, Syria and Vietnam have also been added to the list of countries of concern.

The US Department of Religious Freedom (US Commission on International Religious Freedom) has added India to its list of countries of concern over the Modi government’s anti-Muslim attitude and government policy. The commission’s vice chairman, Nadine Menza, said in a statement that the annual report was “extremely low.” And this is a very worrying situation regarding religious conditions and freedom in India. The commission’s report also named 13 other countries and recommended to the State Department that they be added to the list of countries of concern because the governments of these countries are tolerating systematic, ongoing and questionable violations.

The State Department has listed nine of the countries of concern in the list of countries up to December last year. These include Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, while the five newly added countries include India, Nigeria, Russia, Syria and Vietnam. The report says that due to the citizenship law in India, the chances of the Muslim population being detained, deported and deported from the state have increased. The report also cites recent statements made by leaders of the ruling BJP against the minority population.

 The report recommends to the State Department that the US government impose targeted sanctions on Indian government agencies, individuals and officials involved in serious violations. Confiscate their assets or ban their entry into the United States. Appreciating Pakistan’s efforts, the Commissioner of the Commission said that it is a good thing for us that Pakistan is encouraging dialogue to address the concerns of the religious population. The report also proposes to add 15 other countries to the special watch list, four of which were added to the same list last year. On the other hand, according to the news agency, the annual report strongly criticized the US Commission on the controversial Indian Citizenship Bill. According to the US Commission, attacks on minorities in India increased in 2019. The US Commission criticized the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the Babri Masjid. The Commission strongly criticized the revocation of the special status of Occupied Kashmir.
