The 63-year-old Mahadjir Effendy, the federal minister for Indonesia’s cultural and human development, the largest Muslim-speaking country in the world, has suggested to his people that if the rich people of Indonesia marry the poor, poverty can be eliminated from the country. Indonesia’s population is around 27 million, and according to a World Bank report, 45% of the population is not middle class. The government claims that only 5 million people in the country are living below the poverty line. The government has launched several schemes to eradicate poverty from the country but the government has not achieved the expected success. And now the government has proposed a unique proposal for rich people to marry the poor.

Minister of Cultural and Human Development, Mahadjir Effendy, while addressing a function yesterday, presented an interesting formula for ending poverty in the country. Federal Minister Mahadjir Effendy suggested that if all the rich people of Indonesia marry the poor people, they will not only be financially stable, but will also end poverty from the country. He sometimes criticized the Ulema, saying that sometimes religious people wrong in regards to marriage that the bride and groom are of the same class, including the same age. The federal minister said it was not wrong for rich people to marry the poor. He also suggested that Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs should issue a Shariah decree in this regard. It should be made clear that rich people should marry the poor.
