The house of Mohamed Abdallah Al Douma, governor of the western Darfur state in Sudan, was attacked by unknown individuals with artillery and heavy weapons, but the governor escaped. According to the foreign news agency, the state government issued a statement announcing that a few heavily armed assailants targeted the governor’s house at night. A government official revealed at a security meeting that security forces at the scene responded to the unidentified assailants without causing any casualties or damage to property. The statement stressed that the governor is in good health and is continuing his responsibilities. However, the statement did not mention the fate of the armed group. A local media report said the attack used artillery and heavy weapons, with explosions being heard throughout the city. The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) has been warning the government about the dangers posed by these armed militias in the state, the proliferation of weapons and the use of these weapons in similar attacks.
