France has formed a special task force in partnership with some of its European Union countries. This task force called Takuba consists of Special Forces from member states and it will participate in counter-terrorism operations in the region called the West African coast. This task force is set up to support the financial and Nigerian forces, which are already fighting against militants in the region. Defense ministers from 13 member states and other delegates finalized the task force during a telephone conference. The member countries include France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Navarre, Denmark, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Portugal, Mali and Nigeria.

Be aware that this region of Africa is rich in minerals. France has been maintaining its military presence in counter-terrorism in the region for years. French Armed Forces claimed in a statement that Mali and Nigerian forces, with the assistance of French Special Forces, have carried out massive operations this month in the borders of the two countries, about 5,000 officers and soldiers from both countries participated. Meanwhile, a large number of militants were cleared. Also, 80 militants’ motorcycles, weapons and ammunition used in making mines were also destroyed. The statement said that 1,700 French commandos, Sahel countries Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and 1500 troops from Chad and 1500 from Nigeria were participated in these operations. These operations took place on the Nigerian border with the Liptako and Mali border areas as well as on the Mali and Burkina Faso borders. During that time, there was a military link between all these countries.
