Pakistani parliament calls on government to recall ambassador from France

Islamabad. … News Time

Pakistan’s parliament has passed a resolution calling on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government that he recalls his ambassador to Paris as a protest against the re-publication of blasphemous sketches in France. The lower house of parliament, the National Assembly, recently passed the resolution in response to the republishing of blasphemous sketches in France insulting the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him). And it accuses French President Emmanuel Macron of spreading anti-Muslim hatred. Even before the National Assembly passed the non-binding resolution, the French ambassador to Islamabad was summoned to the Foreign Office to protest the re-publication of the blasphemous sketches in France. The National Assembly resolution expressed deep concern over the hateful statements of such leaders by French President Emmanuel Macron. He is said to be trying to justify illegal provocations through his statements and it is hurting the religious sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims. The resolution urges the Pakistani government to call on other Islamic countries to boycott French products. According to a Foreign Office statement, the French ambassador has been assured that Pakistan strongly condemns the association of Islam with terrorism for limited electoral and political purposes.

The reaction to the sketchy sketches:

Earlier this month, a history teacher at a school on the outskirts of the French capital, Paris, showed insulting sketches of the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) in his class. A young Chechen man became enraged and beheaded the French teacher on October 16. French President Emmanuel Macron defended and paid tribute to the slain teacher in the name of freedom of expression. In response, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a statement that Emmanuel Macron had actually attacked Islam by encouraging the promotion of blasphemous sketches. Protests against France and President Emmanuel Macron took place today in Lahore and Peshawar, two major cities in Pakistan. Leaders of some religious and political parties and social and business organizations have called for a boycott of French products. Meanwhile, Ajmal Baloch, president of the All Pakistan Traders Association, told reporters that his organization was in touch with traders across the country to boycott French goods and remove them from shops. They have also announced a protest march towards the French embassy in Islamabad next Friday. In the name of freedom of expression in France, there is a strong reaction in Islamic countries to the re-publication of highly insulting sketches of the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him). Shopkeepers in some countries, including Kuwait and Turkey, have boycotted French products en masse and removed French goods from their stores and supermarkets.

It may be recalled that in 2005, a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, first published insulting sketches. In response, a campaign was launched in the Islamic world to boycott Danish products. The sketches were later republished by the French magazine Charlie Hebdo. In response, in 2015, some armed Muslim youths stormed the Paris office of the satirical magazine. As a result, 12, 10 people were killed. Now that these insulting sketches have resurfaced in France, there has been a wave of outrage in the Muslim world, with calls for a boycott of French products. A new diplomatic dispute has arisen between France and Turkey over the issue, and France has recalled its ambassador to Turkey. The next day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron that he needed psychological help. He made the remarks in response to the French president’s remarks on Islamophobia and the declaration of war on Islamic separatism. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged European leaders to stop Emmanuel Makar from opposing Islam and targeting Muslims.
