Doha … News Time

An Afghan government official has claimed that the signing of a deal between the United States and the Taliban could be in place this month if the Taliban’s apparent reduction in operations will result in the US military withdrawing gradually. According to a foreign news agency ‘Reuters’ report, the Afghan government and Western diplomatic sources said the agreement could be signed only in February if the Taliban cuts their operations clearly. Earlier, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said in his statement that talks between the US and the Taliban in Qatar are likely to break.

Reports suggest that the two sides were in talks to demand the United States to reduce its operations to the TalibanAnd now the Taliban are ready to cut down on the US military’s immediate withdrawal deal. Sohail Shaheen, a Taliban spokesman in Qatar, said progress had been made but declined to divulge further details.

Talks between the United States and the Taliban regarding the peace process in Qatar have been going on for more than a year. But in Afghanistan, there is a series of actions against both sides. Afghan officials quoted the talks as saying that the United States had agreed in principle, but the signatures would not occur until the Taliban demonstrated a reduction in operations. On the condition of anonymity, the Afghan official said the contract could be signed this month.

The Western diplomat in Kabul said US negotiators were working on a plan to prepare the Taliban to cut down on operations, and major operations have declined over the past 10 days. He said that after 10 days of tension, the two sides could hold talks and would be ready for inter-Afghan talks.

Keep in mind that the war has been going on in Afghanistan for the last 18 years and there are currently 13,000 US and thousands of NATO troops which began after the September 11, 2001, attack in the United States. The US diplomat said the US plans to reduce its troops by 9,000. According to the Afghan Ministry of Defense official, the news of the signing of the agreement between the US and the Taliban has reduced attacks in the country and has control over 40 percent of the country.

It is to be remembered that almost a year of talks between the US and the Taliban entered its final stages in September 2019. However, US President Donald Trump justified the alleged violence by the Taliban, calling the process “dead.” Last month, Taliban sources said they had offered a 7- to 10-day short-fire to negotiate a deal. However, there was no announcement from both sides regarding the details of this offer. Bombing of US and CIA trained Afghan Special Forces, many civilians, including those killed, have been constantly criticized by human rights organizations and some Afghan authorities. As a result, the Afghan intelligence chief was also sacked. The increase in US airstrikes after 2018 has increased the number of casualties in the conflict. According to US Central Command data, in 2019, the US Air Force dropped 7,423 bombs in Afghanistan and 7,362 bombs dropped in 2018. In 2017, the United States dropped 4,361 bombs in the war-torn country and 1,733 bombs in 2017.
